Frances Tietov

TietovPrincipal Harp Frances Tietov, Elizabeth Eliot Mallinckrodt Chair, joined the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra in September 1970. Prior to this appointment she was chosen to serve as Principal Harp with the American Symphony Orchestra by Leopold Stokowski. She was also harpist with the National Ballet Company and the Pennsylvania Ballet Company and was substitute harpist with the Philadelphia Orchestra.  She has also served as harpist for the Stratford Festival of Canada and has participated in the Marlboro, Colorado, and Cape and Islands Music Festivals. 

She has appeared many times as soloist and in chamber music performances as a member of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.  Her recording of Debussy’s Dances Sacree et Profane with Leonard Slatkin and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra received a Grammy Award nomination.  She has taught at the St. Louis Conservatory of Music and at Washington University.  Ms. Tietov studied with Marcel Grandjany at the Juilliard School of Music and received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where she was a student of Marilyn Costello.
