Peter Henderson

PeterHendersonA versatile and inquisitive pianist, Peter Henderson is much in demand as a chamber musician. His ongoing musical partnerships include the St. Louis-based Ilex Piano Trio and a duo formed in 1999 in Bloomington, IN, featuring the noted German violist Roland Glassl, a member of the Mandelring String Quartet. As a freelance pianist, Henderson has recently performed in collaboration with several members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra under the auspices of the Orchestra's Community Partnerships outreach program and in other local settings, such as the innovative Crossings series, radio station KFUO Classic 99's “From the Garden Live,” the Sheldon’s Classical Series, and the Innsbrook Institute's Music Festival. A former full-time member of the Hot Springs, Virginia-based Garth Newel Piano Quartet, Henderson participated in the Quartet’s inaugural recording of the G-Minor Quartets of Mozart and Brahms. Henderson, who holds the degree Doctor of Music in Piano Performance, Literature, and Pedagogy from Indiana University-Bloomington, has occasionally served as an extra keyboardist with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and has frequently given Pre-Concert Perspectives from the SLSO's Powell Hall stage prior to subscription concerts over the past two years. He has coached chamber music performance techniques at the San Diego Chamber Music Workshop each summer since 2001, and was the orchestral and chamber keyboardist of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony during its 2004 season. Peter lives in St. Louis with his wife Kristin Ahlstrom, a violinist with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and their dog Zack.
